Halo 3: ODST Firefight Tips and Tricks

odst-firefight

Exuberance on the Bungie.net forum recently posted some tips and tricks to reaching the 200k par on Firefight levels. Use these and even you can achieve greatness. I would like to add that it is extremely important to know where your life-packs and power weapons are located. On Security Zone, I always wait until there is 1 enemy remaining, then Spartan Laser the Wraiths for Triple Kills. Here is what Exuberance had to say:

“If you have the time, play on easy.
If not, try heroic.

Use SMG on bugs
Use plasma pistol + auto mag on brutes
Use fuel rod/rockets on hunters (or SMG if you don’t have either)

To easilly kill fuel rod or hammer chieftans, hit them with an overcharged plasma pistol shot (which will stop them from moving and attacking for a couple seconds), then quickly headshot them a bunch of times with the auto-mag). When It;s chieftan wave, go into a room with only 1 entrance until you’ve killed a chieftan.

The hammer works really well against jetpack brutes since they land near you, and luckily they only appear on the waves with hammer chieftans. Convenient!

When fighting hunters without a rocket launcher or fuel-rod gun, use the SMG and pull them back into a small room where it takes other enemies a while to come to. This works especially well on Security Zone.

Save spartan lasers for wraiths. You can one-shot a wraith with a spartan laser in 3 places: the little square on the front (where the driver is), the vulnerable spot on the back, or on the very top that shoots the mortars. On Security Zone, ignore the wraiths (just don’t go past the top of the first flight of stairs)

If possible, kill grunts before brutes otherwise you end up with the stupidly annoying “suicidal grunt sneaks up from behind” death

Brute shot works VERY well against jackals, even with their shields, and as a bonus your beat downs do more damage with it due to the bayonette.

When iron skull is on, jackals make good targets to get health back from since they don’t toss grenades.

Up until the Mythic skull turns on a full clip of needles or a single overcharged plasma pistol shot will kill engineers.

Be smart. Choose a relatively small (but not too small. 1 tiny room is too small. Grenades will pwn you if you do that) area to defend, and stick to it. Don’t go running out.

Drones suck. Save SMG ammo for them.

90% of the time, you should be carrying an auto-mag and plasma pistol. The other 10% of the time you should be carrying a fuel rod gun, rocket launcher, spartan laser, or SMG instead of a plasma pistol (or a needler or plasma rifle if you can’t find a plasma pistol, which shouldn’t be too hard)

Stalkers (stealthed brutes) are really really really really really really stupid enemies. The best way to fight them is either plasma pistol (which permanently removes their stealth) or use their own grenades or a sticky grenade against them. You might want to go into a room with 1 entrance for this, but depending on the level and number of stalkers that can epicly backfire on you, so I wouldn’t use that every time)

Getting into a mounted turret when the catch skull is on is instant death. Don’t even try. If you’re going to use a turret, remove it from the stand first. It can give you some nice multipliers in the first wave though and is awesome against drones.

That’s all the tips I have, or at leats can think of right now.

Unless you’re playing on easy. In that case disregard everything I said, and run into the middle of the field of battle and cackle manically as you slaughter your enemies whilst withstanding the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune over and over again.”
